5 Things to Remember About Body Language
Long before anyone weighs your words, they read your body. The way you stand, the stillness of your hands, the ease or tension in your shoulders , it all arrives first. Most people spend hours preparing what to say and almost no time preparing how they'll stand while saying it.
1. Stay calm
Steady yourself before you begin. A rushed start rarely settles down on its own.
2. Be comfortable in your own space
Stand like you belong in the room you're in. Ease reads as confidence, even before you've said a word.
3. Stay composed
Let your body hold its ground, even when the moment gets uncomfortable.
4. Let your gestures serve you
Movement should support what you're saying, not compete with it.
5. Be consistent
Your body and your message should agree with each other from the first minute to the last.
The words we choose get most of the credit, but the body does most of the talking before a single sentence is spoken. Get that part right, and the words have an easier job.
